2022.01.27 08:46 minhduc66532 Love the game but the performance is awful

Look not all Unity games have performance issues Unity is also not a bad engine either. The forest and subnautica, for example, are 2 pretty good optimized games (I completed both games with max settings and > 60fps). But Eastshade performance is just awful low to high setting make almost NO DIFFERENCE in framerate. And to my understanding, there is no way to fix the problem other than to live with it

2022.01.27 08:46 Iridescent_Quantum New to computer science and want to know where to start? Applying to college in Fall.

*TLDR: Based on the hardware I have what are some of the basics and fundamentals I can dabble with for a complete computer science beginner*
Hey, so Iam 31 with a high school degree. I have zero actual computer science coding knowledge. My immediate goal is to be well versatile on a variety of computer platforms on a basic fundamental level. A jack of trades with various OS's, and programming languages, a fundamental of all the main systems.
I havent started any of the free coding resources, tutorial videos, books available online yet. I want some experienced guidance on how to learn, because i don't want to learn this the wrong way and have to unlearn bad habits later on, or is there no bad way to learn the absolute fundamentals? I have no idea, which is why i ask for some informed advice.
I would like some familiarity with WindowsOS, MacOS, ChromeOS, and Linux. Intel and AMD CPUs & GPUs. And which programming languages to start with. Plan on getting a linux dedicated laptop in the future as well. Was thinking of using my Lenovo: Yoga or my Dell: G15 since ik Lenovo and Dell are generally more compatible and friendly with linux than other companies (not sure if the yoga specifically is compatible or well suited for linux) I also want to get a MacBook in the future with an intel processor because I know not everything for the ARM CPU Apple M1 chips are supported.
Iam also extremely fascinated in how some students pursuing computer science degrees were able to manage using just a chromebook and if anyone can comment on that as well. My chromebook has a bit higher specs than the lower more affordable chromebooks so I hope that helps overcome some hurdles on the ChromeOS usability part.
Ill be building my first PC (with mid-tier workstation power) soon but for right now I have some laptops to hold me down and Iam not opposed to remote connecting to computer labs through school if they have or 3rd party services for hardware power.
Also Ill be upgrading any internal RAM & HDD/SSD for the gaming laptops and if possible on the consumer laptops I have. (Little background all laptops (with the exception of 1) Ive got on black friday between 2021 and this year 2022 for $50-$250 cheaper than MSRP)
Hardware: (in order of purchase) - HP - (intel-10th gen: i5-1035G1 (1.00 GHz - Max Turbo 3.60GHz) 4-cores) - (RAM: 8GB - SSD: 256GB (bought in 2018 and is my daily beater & browser)
- HP - 15 Pavillion - (intel-10th gen: i5-10300H (2.50GHz - Max Turbo 3.60GHz) - 4-cores) - (Nvidia dedicated GPU: GTX-1050) - RAM: 8GB - SSD: 256GB
- Acer: Nitro 5 - (intel-10th gen: i5-10300H (2.50GHz) - (Nvidia dedicated GPU: GTX-1650) - RAM: 8GB - SSD: 256GB
- MacBook Air (2020) M1 chip (ARM architecture CPU: Apple M1: 7-core (3.2GHz) - RAM: 8GB - SSD: 256GB
- Acer: Chromebook Spin 713 - (intel-11th gen EVO: i5-1135G7 - EVO) (2.4GHz - Max turbo 4.2GHz) - 4-cores) - RAM: 8GB - SSD: 256GB
- Dell - G15 - (AMD: Ryzen 7 - 5800H (3.2GHz) - (Nvidia dedicated GPU: RTX-3050 ti) - RAM: 8GB - SSD: 512GB
- Lenovo: Yoga 6 - 2 in 1 - (AMD: Ryzen 7 - 5700u - (1.8GHz) RAM: 16GB - SSD: 512GB

Thank you so much for your help in advanced. "Hello, World!" <3

2022.01.27 08:46 FizzyDrinksBR Merge Normal and Bug types and buff them

So I'm working on a homebrew tabletop game where I make some of Pokemon's mechanics simpler or more dice friendly and one of the things I've been tweaking is type effectiveness (mostly because I like them bugs and my story doesn't work if early game mons have such weak typing, plus all the players I'll probably have are familiar with Pokémon type matchups and I want to shake them a bit).
Long story short, Bug and Normal aren't elements. We could get into an argument about Fighting, Psychic, Fairy, Grass etc, but to me Bug always sounded more like a characteristic of some creatures being creepy crawlies or arthropods (not bugs even bugs IRL!) while Normal is just a placeholder type and I'd rather relocate the current Normal types into other types than keep a type that doesn't do anything and is randomly weak to Fighting and immune to Ghost.
In the aforementioned game, the merger of Normal and Bug types came to be called Beast, or Feral (game is not in English so you can translate in different ways). I'm keeping all land animal-like, including insect-like, creatures in this type umbrella, and moving the humanoids and sea/underground bugs to other types like Psychic, Dark, Water and Ground.
I kept the general type effectiveness of a Bug/Normal combo, with a few changes:

What if GF changed the core Pokemon games in this way so as to make Bugs and Normals fare better in the late game without busted stats?
As stated previously, Pokémon with Normal and Bug types would be relocated between Beast and other thematically related types.
How would this impact the game? Would it be a positive or negative change? Are any types becoming turbo broken after this change?

2022.01.27 08:46 TokyoAJ Criticism of Sheldon's analysis in todays show

I want to give a healthy criticism to Sheldon's charting show today, he has a lot of good knowledge but I feel he is missing something with his ideology here and I'm sure he's also happy to acknowledge he isn't perfect with charting etc.
Basically, he is comparing alts saying, for example, $DOT is good because it is 70% down, $THETA is good because it is 80% down etc, therefore he's saying they are better to buy than ALTS like $MATIC or $LUNA which have only come down 40% for example.
However, this is a mistake a lot of new traders fall into. this is not the correct way to think, it's actually the opposite (as a trader). You WANT to buy the alts that have relative strength because that is bullish. Matic and Luna have relative strength compared to many other alts and therefore have come down less because there is simply more demand and buying pressure for these alts.
he said he would wait to buy ftm, matic, luna when they have done another 80% correction but the reality is at that point the market would likely be in total bear mode and all charts would look dead - imagine what the alts with less strength would be at that point?
alts like dot, theta, etc that have had huge crashes (80%) have much weaker charts and you are less likely to get good short term rewards from these compared to matic etc that have relative strength, sometimes it's better to buy the bullish coins rather than the coins that are down loads and trading sideways.

2022.01.27 08:46 mariannevanaperen #54 This Magnificent Cake! (2018)

10/10 for looks; 6/10 for story
watched: 27-1-2022 / challenge started: 9-8-2021
With 42 minutes in length this one JUST makes the description of a feature film and thus adds to the collection. I looked up the brains behind the first chapter of The House and found Ce Magnifique Gateau, a collection of stories set mainly in nineteen century Belgian Congo. Here's a spectaculair mixture of technical splender AND unbearable uncanniness if I ever I saw one. My wife actually demanded it to be turned off halfway through and I sternly said: you think these colonial themed stories are too painful to watch even when they are completely made out of textile animation? I mean, could there have been a softer, more forgiving medium to tell some of the most shameful histories we modern day Europeans (I'm from the Netherlands, the neighbouring country of Belgium) still nowadays are dealing with? Still, I had to admit it made for an unnerving combination. The stories themselves were irritatingly vague and sometimes truly too painful to be enjoyed, as such I wouldn't know which poor soul I would recommend this too. The look of it is one I have never seen anywhere before, though: utter perfection.
