2021.12.07 15:11 AShaughRighting Schools closed tomorrow, why?!

I love my kids but it’s a disaster trying to keep them entertained and alive while balancing not being fired working from home!!!
Why on earth are the schools closed tomorrow in Midleton? Zero issues with storm that I’ve seen.
Vent over.

2021.12.07 15:11 9000Pushups I want to get rescue and master certifications while playing in the tropics.

Currently locked in the US. In the Midwest.
I’d like to go somewhere that I can work a few days, either doing expat taxes or some legal work, and really get some diving and certifications done. My ideal situation would be to work at a dive shop, where folks that work there also do some recreational dives and do some professional work on the side. I’ve got about 200 hours underwater but that was almost three decades ago in Southern California. Didn’t try to get rescue or master Scuba certifications. Thinking back that was a huge mistake.
Any dive shops locations that foot the bill? Any overseas or Caribbean island law firms looking for a lawye accountant that can deal with me diving the majority of the week?

2021.12.07 15:11 Cincinnatus-007117 Who would win

Say somehow LOKs world merged with ours and let's say kuvira marches her forces into our world and tries to take it. Since our side doesn't have benders we have guns to fight at a distance. Who would win the fight, kuvira and her earth benders or some nation like the US UK or Russia that has guns of all sizes?

2021.12.07 15:11 coolcooolwater Arch withdrawal symptoms

(This is purely personal experiences in my attempts to hop from Arch to other distros, and is not meant to be representative of all Arch users)
Learning, installing, using, and maintaining Arch isn't hard. The hard part is trying to use anything else after you've seasoned yourself with Arch.
In my life, Archlinux is a both a gift and a curse. Conquering it is the most gratifying feeling in the world. I still recall the weeks in 2010 or so when I was a teenager staying up late into the nights obsessing about finally installing it. There's nothing like finally achieving your perfect system, using troubleshooting to clear your journal of errors and learn more in the process, successfully handling a wonky package during update if necessary, etc. These are things that are automated in other distros but are left up to the user in Arch, according to KISS philosophy. Learning them yourself makes it very hard to trust anyone else handling such things. This comes with a sense of pride that you do not get with other distros (not counting super-advanced such as Gentoo Slackware etc), a sentiment that when I try to distrohop to something else, keeps me up all night. Having anything other than pure base Arch on my system makes me feel like I cheated myself, like 'all that info you learned, for what?' 'who knows if insertnonarchdistrohere i switched to decides to make some significant distro-specific change i don't like' or 'thanks very much rhel scripts but i could have done that faster myself on arch TYVM'? (For the record I don't like Archbased distros at all, I've tried Manjaro and Endeavour and I just don't see the point in the extras they add when base Arch exists.)
So, why am I even discussing leaving Arch if I've used it for so long, one might ask. Because I'm not a systemadmin, I'm just a normal user who happens to have a passion OS type stuff. I literally only use it because I know how to, rolling through the upgrades because that's just part of the Arch process. The bleeding edge has no benefit to me, I choose rolling purely because I won't have to reinstall to a new version one day. I'd be happy on Solus on Fedora or Pop, all the maintenance being done for me with a desktop and nice defaults similar my Arch ones, but every time I try I end up back "home" on Arch after like a week because it just doesn't feel right having all that knowledge being thrown out the window. But when I'm "home" on Arch, it's like I'm always questioning whether or not I belong here......I guess I'm just really conflicted idk. I know the ins and outs of a Linux system, for what? Noone's paying me. I just wanna use this thing and browse the web at the end of the day. And I guess Arch gives me more of a sense of 'pride' than with any other distro. But even that is wearing thin- these days, if you say you use Arch out in public, you get pelted with tomatoes and pointed & laughed at, before being called out for being an elitist by your local Randall Weems.
Unless you are the type to get overwhelmed part way through the installation and settle for something else, it's safe to say once you go the Arch way, it's hard to go back. Believe me, I've tried.
